Vanishing Point by androgeusComment: The use of flash to create an opposing lighted scene in comparision to the sunset exactly matches the nature of the challenge is a very effective demonstration of how light can be used. Well done. |

Layersby rio78Comment: More a image of lighting than a creative use of lighting. It's hard to rate this because of it's nature. It might have been a better approach to find a subject and then use the lighting to create the image rather than of the light itself. |

me, myself, Iby GordonComment: The side light to create effect is a good attempt, it fails to provoke any sense of being unusual and is somewhat distracting from the subjects face. It might have been a better approach to back light the head to create a halo effect and provide some drama to the image. |

M a g i c a lby glad2badadComment: More of a picture of creative lighting than a use of creative lighting. The image is a good one even if it slightly misunderstands the nature of the challenge subject. |

Reflecting Light as Birds Take Flightby BrianRComment: Not a terribly interesting use of lighting or of how lighting affects the natural world. More thought into how this particular type of light affects the natural world would have made for a better image. |

SINGAPORE RIVERby soonComment: An excellant demonstration of how to control articifial light. The highlights are right on the edge of being overdone and very effective. A wonderful example of how to control lighting with proper camera and light control. Well done - a top selection for a ribbon. |

Woody at the Laugh Factoryby MrXpressComment: Simple, elegant and effective - the author's choice of subject and lighting is nearly perfect. The minor over done light on the chest of the subject is a distraction, but given the general atmosphere projected by this image, it more than meets the criteria of effective lighting demonstration. Well done - a ribbon contender. |

Easterby dtremainComment: While the lighting of the cross is extremely effective, the background detracts from the image and impacts it negatively. If a narrow focus only on the subject is used to rate this image, it would have to be a nine because of it's extreme emotional impact and use of lighting. |

Fierce African Sunby cooliComment: While the author's intent was clear, the highlight blooms detract from what could be a spectacular image. A softer approach lighting this image would have been better reducing the highlights. Not a terribly effective use of light to enhance the subject. |
