Mt. Snowby tmhallingComment: A good solid image that is crisp, sharp and properly framed and composed - a technical success in every way and a terrific demonstration of DOF control and use of the zone system. From an artistic standpoint is has universal appeal - a gracefull sky along with a dramatic mountain landscape directly opposing the foreground gives a broad sense of depth and dimension. A very worthy entry into the challenge and one that should place within the top ten if not a ribbon contender. Well done. |

Bright Spotby SnopawComment: A good solid image that is crisp, sharp and properly framed and composed - a technical success in every way. From an artistic standpoint this will have universal appeal. The use of color and grayscale, while a common technique, was used to good effect in this image. A good entry into the challenge. |

Stay Focused!by gsalComment: A good solid image that is crisp, sharp and properly framed and composed - a technical success in every way. From an artistic standpoint, it is an intersting image but of less than universal appeal. The offset is a little strong given the interesting expression and facial features. A slightly stronger angle exposing more face to the profile would have helped. Excellant demonstation of DOF control - great bokeh. A good entry into the challenge. |

A Warm Day Turning into a Cool Nightby pirsotComment: A good solid image that is crisp, sharp and properly framed and composed - a technical success in every way. From an artistic standpoint, it is an intersting image but of less than universal appeal. The over dark tree and foreground against a vivid sky negatively impacts the image. A good entry into the challenge. |

Typicalby GeneralEComment: An odd man out image diametrically opposed to the challenge subject, the humor expressed by the title/image is appreciated. However, as an entry, it fails to impress from either a technical or artistic standpoint. Originally rated a five for the above reasons, it has been rerated a 6 for it's humor component. |

Incoming!by diverComment: It often hard to understand why certain choices are made when submitting images for competition. In this case, it's even more odd because of the excellant large floral component contrasting with the little and largely undetailed bee. The over whelming green background and foreground is perfectly controlled and the offset flower is artistically pleasing but the large and small comparision is automatically made and the eye tracks to the larger object. Technically a terrific image for any other type of flora challenge. Originally rated a 5 for the above stated reasons, it has been rerated a 6 for it's technical competance. |

Run for Your Life!by BackpackRComment: A very interesting image that suffers from a just shy of sharp focus. Technically, it needs crisp and detailed image to pull of a positive artistic impression. While an intriguing situation, the lack of detail causes the eye to wander around looking for something to interest the viewer. Oddly, the lighting situation may be at fault for this, but at the same time, could have been made better by a slight alteration of aperature or shutter speed. A good entry into the challenge, it falls short of having any significant impact. |

Skimmingby MelethiaComment: A curious theme in this challenge are images being too tall. This image would have presented a much more positive impression if it had been shorter concentrating the viewer on the bird and not the background. With a little shorter image, the viewers eye would be attracted to the bird rather than the background increasing the soft focus effect from a negative to a positive. It's almost abstract in concept and that to this reviewer is a plus. While size is a minor issue, sometimes it can have great impact on an image and this is one of those instances. A good solid entry into the challenge originally rated a 6 and rerated to a 7. |
