An Afternoon at the Car Showby BeeCeeComment: Sometimes an idea is carried just a bit too far to be truly effective. In this case, the rich colors and detailed models in this diorama should have been perfectly in focus to be perfectly effective. The reason is that car shows like this have a mix of modern and the antique - it perfectly replicates car shows in which owners adopt the clothing and styles of the era their cars are from and non-owner attendees wear suitable street clothing for viewing - it's a different type of reenactment that is a lot of fun to do for the participants. A longer look would have not hurt the sense of depth and dimension. Still, having said all that, it is a good capture, just a little shy of being artistically perfect. Well done. |

Beer Pong Delightby hmundellComment: The DOF in this image is a problem along with the out of focus pong ball - the while under lit scene with the soft focus just quite doesn't work from an artistic standpoint. Technically, a little higher ISO and a slower shutter speed to create motion blur on the ball would have helped this image a lot. |

Free Will...by grgkopanasComment: Another laugh out loud funny image, this is very creative and unique - something not seen before by this reviewer. A complete technical and artistic success - an idea that this reviewer might steal sometime in the future. Singularly unique. Well done. |

Tabletop Playby Prof_FateComment: Uneven lighting affects this image negatively and what should have been an interesting look into curiosity of a child is less interesting as a result. Properly framed and captured with a very interesting background, the child's complexsion appears washed out and unhealthy which is obviously not the case at all. A little more lighting control would have made this an outstanding contribution to the challenge. |

Caffe' On The Cornerby rodfulkComment: A little more subtle lighting would have been a huge plus in this image as it appears to be over done in some areas and under exposed in others allowing for light blooms that, while not overdone, distract. From an artistic standpoint, it needs something to create a little more interest - perhaps a little closer look at the coffee machine or the impliments baskets would have been a better choice - in partucular against the tiled background. A little more staging of the shot would have resulted in a better image. |

Table Top Limbsby AbstractComment: A very different type of table reflection, the perfect surface allowed for exact replication with one fault - the tops of the feet are not exactly replicated on the bottom reflection - there is a difference that while not noticable at first, that becomes more prominent and distracting the longer it's viewed. While minor, it does affect the image negatively. Technically, given the flaw, the conversion is perfect and shows a indepth knowledge of how to handle the zone system for maximum impact. From an artistic standpoint, it conveys a positive impression on first viewing. Well done. |

Hot air fruitsby mitalapoComment: Laugh out loud funny - technically perfect - a terrific artistic impression make this a wonderful image to review. Rather than wax poetic about the out of the box originality in evidence, let's just sit back and enjoy what should be a ribbon winner. Terrific idea perfectly executed. Well done. |

checkby vawendyComment: There is a sense of humor in this image that may, or may not, have been intentional. The title combined with the expression of the Queen is perfect - the whole construction is well thought out with excellant lighting. A complete technical success that positively impacts the artistic component with the in-depth detail and sense of space and dimension. A very well thought out image that deserves high placement in the challenge. Well done. |

Workmans Tableby Mark-AComment: There are two ways this image could have gone - horribly wrong or perfectly right. Fortunately, it's the better of the two - the dark rich detail, concentration of the craftsman and the very subtle lighting effect of the grinder is impressive and well thought out. Curiously enough, there are two images here that would have worked with a slightly different crop - either one would have worked as well as this one. Equally impressive is the lighting - the right on the edge of over done white is excellant and gives the image significant impact. A potential top ten image and a possible ribbon winner. Well done. |

Beefby hajekaComment: Sometimes an idea that seems like a good one, just fails to impress on execution. A uncommon fault in food images, the highlights negatively affect the overall impression of this image. Lighting in these situations is important and in this case, the blooms don't enhance, but detract. A suggestion for the future would be to avoid direct overhead lighting and/or fill the area with a fill flash technique or even indirect incandescent - the later of which would bring out more color and give a better focus point. |
