Thanks for taking the time to think out loud. Did you guess it was me or did you have this pegged for Lutchenko. or someone else?

I am not sure it deserved to place any higher given the other shots although it clearly should have beaten Lutchenko's entry of the same model!!!!

For me it's the stark white background that doesn't help. The model is an up and coming singer. She was very specific about wanting a blown out white background, personal I would have tried to soften the image a bit with something more neutral. Lutchenko avoided this by doing a tighter crop, but thats cheating!

I'd have placed this comfortably in the top ten but at the end of the day it all comes down to personal taste. Some of those placed above yours display a more subtle handling of tonal balance. In yours, the models face is light, bright and smooth while elsewhere in the same image there are slightly overpowering, rich, contrasty textures in the sleeve and bangles.
I hope you don't mind me thinking out loud here - I'm trying to learn something myself through this analysis.

Nice crop and composition with both the hat brim and far arm forming gentle diagonals, while the head stays in the 'rule of thirds'.
