OK...Lets Go!!by danculwellComment by muckpond: greetings from the critique club!
i think this is a great idea for the challenge. as to why it didn't score very well, i'm going to guess two things: lighting and composition.
a photographer friend of mine told me once that the absolute worst thing you can do in an image is unintentionally cut off someone in the shot. like, not capturing the feet of a person standing, etc. obviously you can violate that rule for dramatic effect, but in a situation like this it seems that the half dog in the foreground of the shot is pretty distracting and takes away a lot from the photo. had he been smaller or more in the background it might not have mattered so much.
the concept is great, and the action is wonderful to capture. i don't know if you considered it or not, but if your camera has a burst mode you could use that to get a lot of action shots and then delete those that don't work out. the jumping and the ears of the dogs on the right work extremely well for this challenge -- your best bet would have been to put the focus of the image on them.
finally, the bright sunlight washes out a lot of the detail. while it's not always avoidable, i'd suggest working on bringing out the colors of the photo more in order to give it more impact.
good luck!

Shatteredby danculwellComment by smudgeSMJ: I like this! You used the mirror in a different way than I've seen so far, definitely fits the challenge but not in an overstated kind of way. I like the b&w in this. |
