As for this shot, there's not much more I can tell you that hasn't already been said below. It looks like your new(ish) to the site. You'll probably find you'll learn more in this side challenge than you will in the regular ones. Enjoy.

This is much better with regard to the focus. I like this composition as well. I do see what you mean by the blown out fur. I had the same trouble with my recent post. We'll learn more as we go.

Focus is certainly better here. I also feel that the composition is much better as well, I like that the crop is tighter around them, and a little less centred. If you want to work on that white fur, at shooting time you could underexpose a touch, or in photoshop/gimp use the clone tools to bring a little detail back in. I like this one a lot!

focus on this one is better than the first, good job. i dont find the white fur all that overexposed, it looks pretty good, save the little patch near the right of his head. keep up the growth, were only in day 2!

I'd have to agree with everything said so far. I like the pose, I like the composition.

Things that could be improved (IMHO):
- Focus
- Light could be a touch more directional
- A "closer" pose between the two to tell a bit more of a story about them, perhaps

The composition is nice in my opinion. However, it does seem a little out of focus. I have similar issues with my own photography. Other than the focus issue, I like the photo.

Composition: Your angle is good but not fantastic. You cut off the dogs feet and that back piece of wood is running right through his neck. LOL!

Lighting/Exposure: Your light is a bit flat, I am guessing sunlight at around 1 or 2 pm? Other than that, I see no severely blown out or shadowy areas, which is good.

Pose: I like the way the dog and the man are directly above one another. I would like to see their heads closer together though. It makes the pose tighter.

Suggestions for Improvements: Composition: Perhaps a step to the right and a bit of a stoop would have helped this a bit. Rarely should you shoot straight on with no tilt or turn of the head or subject and stooping would have eliminated the wood in back running through the head and might have helped with the dog's feet as well. Lighting: Earlier in the morning or later in the evening make for the best lighting. Try to get outside earlier or later (depending on your sleeping habits). Exposure: Try for a higher f-stop or move the man's face further forward into the focal plane. That way the dog and the man can both be totally in focus. Pose: When taking a portrait, remember that you are in control of the shoot. Don't be afraid to guide your subjects. You know more than they do :)
