Hi Janine,

I'll start by putting a couple of things out on the table for you. I'm not a big fan of shooting flowers and not an expert in any sense about what to look for, but I do enjoy looking at strong images of flowers. Take my comments with a grain of salt or a drop of honey.

I did vote in this challenge and gave this image a six. I don't know your style well enough to have expected a flower in this challenge, but I do know I'm enjoying your recent entries a lot. Especially the variety of subject matter and processing approaches. Very eclectic!

This photo is fascinating. As some of the commenters have noted it is soft with details that fit the subject so well. The single pink color palette with gradients created by petal edge lines and shadows is quite calming. The arcing lines themselves are varied and interesting - while defining a graceful diagonal path through the image. I only wonder where to land and tend to rest at the darkest section in the upper left third of the image. That said, I will say I like it a lot.

Finally, FWIW, I have to make a comparison to your Pastels entry, Pretty in Pink, which I personally think is a stronger image, although it didn't score as well. Just more fodder for the I am the Walrus score thread :-)

We've run out of fresh images to critique, so now there are some old ones in the queue.

You did extremely well with this particular shot Janine, I love it when those last minute attempts do better than we could ever expect.

This was one of my favourites in this challenge. I loved the simplicity and really liked the texture (assuming Analogue Pro?) I don't have an iPhone any more but I do find that sometimes I get better angles when using the phone over the "big gun" not sure why :)

Not too much to comment on this one, it's a well done image

Quite hard for me to critique this image, Gerbera are my favourite flowers without question and I have used them a few times in challenges too.

You did quite well with this image in the Pastels challenge, just missing that coveted 6 by a whisker.

I think a couple of things could have pushed it over to the next level. The composition is quite tight. I think I'd like to have seen a bit more of the pale pink out petals.

Even though the histogram indicates it's properly exposed, I find it a bit flat. I think a slight levels/curves adjustment would pull the image back a bit and give it a bit more contrast. I'm sure you were trying to keep the soft pastel tones, but I think it's pastel enough to stand that sort of adjustment.

Very nicely focused. Quite DPC friendly.

You did quite nicely on this shot. To be quite honest it is very difficult for me to give an honest critique of an abstract image. I've never been into abstracts too much. However this does look like a wall hanger. It's got nice flowing color. It also has some depth to it that I like. I hope this critique helped you out.
