glowingby Ja-9Comment by sidpixel: Hello from the Critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge
A nice natural scene of this lovely time of year, your composition is very appealing and I like that the road is a natural feature too and not asphalt it blends well with the scene as a whole. The trunks of silver birch are always a treat in any scene and this is no exception. The colours and the light are major elements that are working well in your image. I wasn't very keen on the lack of detail to begin with but its slowly growing on me, I like that in the main you still have some detail in the tree trunks. I love the black elements, the branches and features on the trunks I find them most appealing against the rest of it.
Well done Janine with your high placing, another successful entry. |

Yellow-Rumped Warblerby Ja-9Comment by Ecce_Signum: Hi from Andi and the Critique Club Janine ;)
Lets start on the subject, a shot from the back with the head turned like this is a good position for me however he/she lacks enough sharpness and detail to work well (especially in a FS). The beak looks pin sharp but sharpness seems to fade from there back. The Yellow-Rumped Warbler has a very vibrant yellow and it seems a little lacking here for me (I'm not a birder btw, this is from google images lol).
Whilst I prefer the blurred background of foliage for this type of shot the even light blue sky serves as a good background that lets the viewer focus on the bird and tree.
The tree? well, for me the star of the image is the decaying leaf on the right along with the rest of the oof leaves and the bird does get a little lost in the leaves behind it.
Hope this helps Janine but guess you knew all that already after skimming through your portfolio ;) |

r e f l e c t i o n s by Ja-9Comment by wbanning: Joining the "shoulda done better" club. What I really, really like is the choice of including only the reflection of the woman observing the monument. That makes the image for me.
BTW, the monument, which was met with intense controversy at the time of its creation, has become for me THE most powerful, evocative place in Washington to stand and contemplate history. The "ghost" of a woman reading the wall reflects much more than captured light on granite. |
