A Spot of Milkby michelaudetteComment by FrankRobinson: Hi Michel, since you didn't find my last critique useful enough to tick the box, I'll keep this one brief.
This is a rather nice shot - technically nice and crisp with good DOF and I think that you did a very good job with the lighting.
Artistically, I am not sure why you decided to cut the cup handle off half way down? Perhaps it was practical based on the amount of milk on your work surface... Either way I find the crop a little awkward - either tighter on the surface with the handle out of the way, or further back showing the whole curve of the handle would have worked better for me.
There are plenty of droplet shots on DPC, but this is sufficiently different, and well executed, to stand out. |

Sharpen it in actionby michelaudetteComment by geinafets: This could be a cool image, but I think the lighting lets the shot down. It's too direct, too harsh, and too flat. I would have moved the main light far camera left, almost pointing directly down the blade (I would have made this light much softer/diffused too). Then I would have added a relatively harsh (but still not bare bulb) light behind and camera left of the subject, slightly higher than the subject, to add a rim light. |

A Spot of Milkby michelaudetteComment by JopsyDaisy: I love how the cup is so full that you can't see the white top in the back. It's a shame that you can see the reflections of your camera in the cup though. |

Like the picure, the thing that holds this back for me is the milk leaving the frame and the lack of the cup rim on the right - even so a great effort and worth trying again as I think if you get it right it would make a good print for the coffee addict :-) |
