I think you're losing impact by having your explosion of color originate from the top left. I think this shot would have had more power in a portrait layout or if you had flipped it horizontally in the landscape layout. I really like the DOF, but it hurts my neck to look at.

...and my guess, brush!

Hi Johanna...perhaps a little too contrasty, but I like the angle and the subject. Reflection a good idea.

Just discovered this now as I can't vote on Adv Editing challenges. Wow, So creative. You have a knack. As mentioned some small technicals like close focus can put the cherry on top. That lens (Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8) should give you some kick-a55 results.

I love those shots that I don't automatically fully understand, but that I want to keep looking at to figure out what's going on. This is a perfect example!

Yup, goes to show that on DPC if it isn't in your face the majority don't get it and click 1,2,3,4 and move on...don't be disheartened. This was a fab shot and I gave it an 8. I'm smelling a posthumous...

beautiful use of varied texture and color, I like that you used a narrow DOF to have only clear focus on the pattered shoe. Gains almost an abstract quality the longer one observes...a top 5 no doubt...9

Very creative interpretation on the challenge to create dots with the light and shadows. Nice job. That only small nag would be that I would have like to seen the nose / bottom of the face a little bit more focused IMHO.

Comment by George:
The dots seem too manufactured here - I think of printed or sewn dots (or dots on an animal) when I think of polka dots, not so much lighting through holes. That's personal preference, I know, but that's how voting goes. The DOF is a bit shallow, with the blurry nose becoming a bit of a distraction. Good composition. Perhaps color would've worked better to make it a bit more interesting?

Sorry, doesn't work for me. I didn't really get the idea behind this.
