I gave this a five when I first saw it. Probably was too hard on it. What took away from an amazing presentation was the out of focus center of the flower. imho But there is no doubt that this is an amazing composition.

One thing that no one has mentioned is that still life typically has a group of objects that are all within the frame. Given that none of your objects are fully contained within the frame it seems more "dynamic" than "still" . The topic is a killer as well. Lice eeewwwww! Technically, the lighting and composition are nice. I did not vote, but I suspect that the 1's and 2's are DNMC votes rather than bad photo votes.

Certainly a better photograph than the score would indicate. I gave you a 6. I think it's great that it is cluttered. That's how many bathroom counter tops are. I was going to suggest that you had a stronger focal point, but after some thought, I'm not sure there should be one. Perhaps if the magnifying glass played a stronger role, it could be the center of attention, surrounded by all the other items. It reminds me of Cindy Sherman's work. Keep it up!

Way too busy for a still life. There's too much happening in this shot. Too many bold colours that attract attention and even detract from your goal. My eyes don't know where to stop, which in turn makes me want to look away. Good attempt. If you had put one box of the shampoo with a pair of scissors and a comb and maybe that magnifying glass to tell the story and then sprinkled a few hairs here and there you would have scored higher I am sure.

Creative and well executed. I think the score's a bit harsh. My suspicion is that voters in tune to fruit and flowers and wine glasses might have been put off by anything that deviated too far from that. The other problem might be the subject matter itself. Lice are a turnoff, and for some you may have taken them back to a place they'd rather forget! Looking at this and your portfolio, you're certainly on the right track. Take the good with the bad and keep shooting...
