The first thing that strikes me with this image is the vibrant colors. Rich and inviting without feeling overdone. The lighting seem to be pretty direct from overhead, robbing us of some of the minute details. Had the sun been low on the horizon you may have captured more interesting shadows and perhaps more details. Aside from that, I like the image. I like the softness of this flower. I can almost feel the silkiness of the petals.
As for being disappointed in where this image placed, you shouldn't be. You received a respectable score from the voters. There was some very tough competition.

I really like the stark feel. To me it's even a bit apocalyptic in the B&W. It makes me feel as if you're the last survivor in a zombie flick, and you're dutifully recording your existence for nobody's benefit. A very interesting shot, all-round. Well done!

I think the photo fits the challenge of course, but maybe another title would fit the photo more. Its not the most important thing however. I love the composition, how the bloom of light fills up the whole frame. Color seems ok, maybe a bit white in areas. The Flaws are the whites, especially on the water. Maybe 3 seconds or less might have worked for the exposure.

Overall, I still think its underrated, fireworks are not easy to shoot.
