O i so wouldve jawdropped had the pic been an inch closer to chain and the boys face seen thru the whole. or maybe his expression is covered reasonably.. hmm. well done and makes me think. 10

This is one of those comments that people moan about but I really do find that the background detracts from the core idea of this image. I love the idea of the stark metal chain partially obscuring the lonely looking child on the swings. I love the way his clothes reflect the reds and greys of the swing. But I really do find that the background park area of vivid blues and yellows takes a lot of the mood away. Some may feel exactly the opposite because, on the other hand, that bright coloured area is like a separate happy world which this kid isn't a part of. It just doesn't work like that for me. I think DOF choice here is absolutely excellent.

I learned something from seeing this picture. I like the way it is focused up close but the image in the background is what is "desolate'. Thanks for the example.
