To get that Dave Hill affect you need to use a lot of strong lighting. If you have ever seen how he sets up you will notice that he uses a lot of lights and just about full strength. He then stops down the camera and applies a PWL and USM affects to achieve that look.

In this I would say that you had the right idea but you lack the lights needed for the correct effect. On my screen your image is too dark and doesn't really have that Dave hill look but keep working on it and you will get it.

Amazing how the light is just on the dragonfly. A bit too much negative space for me and the dragonfly is a bit too small to see any detail. Good capture though.
