A wise old owl?... Who?.... Me? by fldaveComment by jamesgoss: photo: 6

The quality of this feels a little wonky, a bit less than sharp, a bit of color aberation... feels like a huge crop. The owl is making the perfect gesture- which helps the narrative tremendously. |

The Endangered Burrowing Owlby fldaveComment by giantmike: This is cool that you got the shot, but the quality really isn't there. Some people will likely have already mentioned the noise of the blur. But I would like to point out something that is easy to correct in post processing, chromatic aberration. Notice at the spots how there is the blue/purple area. That's chromatic aberration that is stealing a lot of detail from your photo. |

The Endangered Burrowing Owlby fldaveComment by HarveyG: They really do look pissed off don't they? Really engaging image. Of course I can't pick if it's a non-captive bird or not. Still, NG has used both and I think if all else pans out would use this. Depends on the article. The sharp eyes are what make this image. The shallow DOF makes it pop. What I can't seem to pinpoint is why the feathers immediately near the eyes and at the same plane seem less focused. Were the eyes only sharpened? Is it a trait of JPG compression? I could be way off base here and that's OK. Critiquing is far easier after roll over... |
