The knife is sitting on a table, underneath the table is a flash with a red gel on it pointing towards the background. The background is gray paper about 4 feet behind the table (a white wall would work too). It's a very simple setup and gives great results.

Great shot...the red color is very powerful in this image. If you stare at the knife long enough u can almost see a side view of a face, like a distorted man in the moon. Ok back to the mushrooms... ;-)
