The concept and execution work well together here, but the story is incomplete. There is an overall softness which, along with the deep mysterious shodows and intriguing colors, creates an appropriate mood. But there is no context. In a wider shot, cold and impersonal may work, but when I'm already this close I want to know more. A prop or other element may help to finish this shot.

Love the story - I could have sworn that was Don's arm, and I was wondering (correctly, but with your arm) how the photographer had managed this. And it seems that was almost the least of it.

This almost has the feel of being a set in a stage play. A bit contrived, perhaps, and for some reason I get the impression the loss was a basketball game that the home team didn't win.

(And I know what you mean that you were just glad the woodies were standing - took mine out to play in the vineyard and could not get him to stay standing on the ground at all!)
