Low Rider by tryingtostayinfocusComment by JMart: Originally posted by tryingtostayinfocus: I wasn't sure if the comments that were referring to it looking staged was because of him looking at me or because of the background and subject looking different. |
Congratulations on the ribbon. I was one of the ones that pointed out the staged look and what caught my eye wasn't so much the subject looking at the camera or looking different from the background. It was a few things for me... The ground of the foreground doesn't seem to match the ground of the background; Blur lines suddenly stop on the ground of the foreground; There is a clean border like break between foreground and background; And the curve of the line between foreground and background doesn't seem to match the blur lines in the background.
I was actually shocked that more people didn't point these things out, but I'm just a beginner, so I'll defer to the experts around here. I suppose the foreground is a cross street/walk that is just suddenly buttery smooth and the subtle lines at the very bottom help to see that slightly. Too bad there wasn't just an irregularity or two in that foreground to show more clear motion (although it must be great to ride on).
It really is an effective shot either way. Given that it's unstaged, it's good enough to have fooled some of us into thinking it might be staged. It's almost too bad it's not staged, because then you could say you made a shot good enough to fool a whole bunch of fantastic photographers.
Thanks for the fun misadventure in photo sleuthing.

"Peas Offering"by tryingtostayinfocusComment by bobonacus: Nice colours and good idea. I think maybe focusing more towards the center of the peas would stop the peas at the back being out of focus or maybe closing the aperture by 1 or 2 stops to increase the dof very slightly, that said it doesn't detract from the image too much |
