The colors don't meet the challenge very well. They are supposed to be the same color. But nice idea though. The value of the shadow in the dice is nice though.

While I understand from your title that you were going for a simple look, the end result seems a little bland to my eyes. The texture of the bread is a little plain and the DOF seems too shallow. Without the title, I'm not sure I would recognize it as bread and not a sponge or loofah of some sort.

Some additional side lighting might help to bring out the texture.
