Peek-A-Boo!by ArcyComment by dr rick: Greetings from the Critique Club!
That's certainly a cute subject (and puppies don't hold still, so I certainly believe it was a tough shot). This type of photo usually works best in a vertical format, but I do think horizontal was the right choice here. It helps to balance the energy that exudes from the subject. The bokeh is good here, and complements the subject well. Focus seems just a bit off, but I can't tell if the focus is just in the wrong spot (subject moved after focus lock but before shutter activation), the depth of field is too shallow, or it's caused by the subtle compression artifacts. Sharpening helps a little, but also brings out the jpeg artifacts. |

Path to Daylightby ArcyComment by dwterry: Wow... how high up were you to get that shot? And *how* did you get there??? I like the leading lines of the path and the trees. I find myself wishing for a bit more color... and maybe a specific "subject" within the frame to focus on. Good luck in the challenge! |

Peek-A-Boo!by ArcyComment by blemt: Puppy! Very cute shot. The bokeh here isn't very strong though. You have a very effective shallow DOF shot. But there's not a feeling of the OOF parts either being part of the feel of the image, or enhancing the image. That's a critical part of what bokeh is.
The little guy is still cute as a button. Congrats on your new little model. Pets are a blast to shoot. |
