Comment by Neil:
Good literalism. I like the tonal progression idea here, though it may be too dark too quickly. One other just purely aesthetic comment is that the picture might have been more interesting a shot photographically/artistically if 1) taken with a bigger perspective emphasis, and with another means to indicate counting besides the handwritten numbers (maybe a tape based caldulator)

I like that the needle is in sharp focus but wonder what color would have been like

Greetings from the Critique Club:

Well I was given your image to critique and I have to say that I’m very happy about that. I recall seeing your image in the still life competition and thought that it should finish in the top 10. I was disappointed to see it way down in 73rd.

There are quite a few things I like about this image. First of all, the character of the plate, spoon and milk bottle all strike me as very rural, just like one might find on a farm. Of course the title “Country Livin’ “ didn’t hurt to perpetuate the image.

The next thing that attracted my attention was the interesting composition of the spoon, bottle and plate. I immediately looked at the spoon silhouetted against the bottle, then followed it up to the plate, then around to the apples. I found your image to be very visually stimulating.

I do have to admit that the lighting is abit dim, but it reminds me of evening time on the farm, with the last bit of sunlight glinting through the window. It really sets a mood for the photo.

I didn’t know exactly what to think about the apples. They look nice there, but imho, they don’t quite fit in with the inorganic feel of the spoon, plate and bottle. What could replace them? Who knows, but what I do know isâ€Â¦I like this shot! I gave you an 8.

This is nice, I would suggest a couple things -
I think having number 1 egg closer to the camera, making it a bit larger, and having the eggs get smaller from there would make a nice effect
I think the light radius is a little small

its a great shot.. and you should most certainly be pleased with it.. i love the sliiight sepia thing going on.. unless its just a trick of the eyes.. (pun pun pun) i like that i can really see the flawed surface of the needle.. i wish the eye were more completely in the photograph.. and i dunno.. maybe if the eye were open wider- more of a light dark balance.. i also wish i could see the iris more clearly.. although that wasn't the point ;) anyway.. great shot..

The lighting making the eggs fade away into the distance is very effective indeed.

The eyes shinyness in the background takes away from the picture, color may have been a nice thing to leave in.

I understand what you are trying to convey
but I feel that the eye is a bit distracting in this case
perhaps needs a better composition
