Comment by samtrundle:
this image really is one of two halves... the background (i.e buildings through the mist) could not be better, the foreground, through no fault of your own detracts somewhat from the mood of the image due to the tacky colours of the boat, if only you could make your own scene, a couple of worn out wooden fishing boats would have done nicely :P. Still a seven on the strength of that background.

Wonderful fog-shrouded background! The subject is interesting, a nice choice. My eye wanders trying to hold onto something, but fails. I keep thinking how that would change...something sharp, or well lit, or a different (lower?) point of view?

Good picture. I would like personally to see it with just the boats. the background keeps me guesing for location.

A very interesting shot! Just enough hint of the house behind the decorations, and a well placed main interest point on the lower star.

Two thoughts come to mind.

My attention keps getting pulled to the far right by the 'Santa on a rope (?)', and it's a bit of an effort to push it back towards the middle of the image. Have you considered dodging or cropping it out?

Taking into account differences in monitors (though I calibrate mine, and suspect you do also from the quality of images I've seen from you), I could stand a little more saturation on the central decorations: not enough to overpower the star, mind you, just enough to make those colors a bit more festive.

Just my thoughts, of course.

This is so cool! I like it. It looks like a painting to me unless I look at it up close. I like it really much. Just like Gatorguy said, Congrats you really deserve it!
