Great image, clear, good color and unique composition in the placement of the horizon. The tree has an unfortunate halo. It is not abstract, in fact, it's quite concrete! Nice capture.

Ah, Waikiki -- that explains the "shirtless in October." I spent some months in Oahu and loved it. I like your subject and the shallow depth of field works. There's a bit of a problem with burnout where the sun hits his back. Sometimes I think that shows up more in b&w (in a color photo it may be more golden).

Comment by MacDonald:
NIce lighting on this photo .. like the DOF, adds to the isolation of the character from the b/g - as far as learning how to process b&w, it really depends on what look you are going for and what software you are using - check out the forums as there are some great tutorials there ... I am no expert but would also be willing to share the little I know.

What a character! If you like my style of black and white processing (not for everyone), I'd be happy to share it with you. Pop me a PM if you're interested.

Funny, my first thought too was "would be better if taken from a lower angle" -- guess we all have been well-trained. :-)

Good exposure, by the way, and I like the natural colors.

Comment by Germaine:
A lower angle probably would have been better in a perfect world, but you'd have been pretty conspicuous getting down to get the shot and probably would have lost it.

Very nice, natural tones, but I wonder what this would be like in b&w.

A good study. Looks like he's settled in. I agree that a lower angle might have worked a little better but its not always possible when trying to get a candid.

I love the fact that you've included his shoes, I don't know why I like shoes so much... but they really make this picture for me.

Comment by MacDonald:
I like it when people just claim part of outside as their own .. he seems to have brought something to sit on - took his shoes off and is just ignoring the world. The slight smile on his face tells me he might just know you were there.. so maybe you could have just gone for it, crunched down and fired off a few... grin ... but I probably wouldn't have.

Thanks for the comment Peter, yes I was afraid that he would notice me, and miss the candid mood, but you are right. you know what? next time I'll go for it, and we'll see what happens ;)
