That shot is awesome. The DOF is perfect. The backgroung is perfectly saturated and dark enough to let the flower really "stand out" of the image. Congratulation. I added it to my favorites.

If that bee had any purple on him I would have given you a 10 that is a great shot. but I think the main subject since its so perfect is the bee, I really dont even notice that the flower is purple

Thanks for all the comments... in fact, this was a very rushed shot which I took in the bedroom just before Kate went to sleep. She was a bit grumpy about being kept up, so I made it very quick and used only a couple of cheap and dim lamps on either side of the bed. This is why I used a 1 sec exposure, and why there's no detail in the hair. However, I think the experience and comments will definitely help the next time I plan a portrait.
It took a lot of PS work to get anything presentable, and the 'Lighting Effects' filter (part of the 'Render' filters) helped enormously in 'faking' a studio setup.

Me again, I drew two of yours in a row.

The lighting on the left is wonderful, however I think maybe a small amount of light coming from the right to balance it would give this image greater impact and soften some of the shadows on your model's face as well as bring out some detail in her hair. This could be done using a reflector.

You've done well with the catch light in her eyes. The composition works well with your model looking into the negative space.

Keep shooting.

The colour and the exposure on the flag are good, however I get the feeling there is something missing. It could be the fact that the entire flag isn't visible or the fact that the person with their arm raised doesn't have much visible detail.

More details in the photo to identify with England I believe would make this a better image and portray the emotion that your title implies better.

Good choice of topic for this challenge.

Keep shooting.

Comment by Bran-O-Rama:
Bee appears a little soft on the focus but I know how hard it is to capture these little suckers! (I had to use a dead one for my self portrait amongst other reasons and potential threats of handling a live bee). Still, even the flowers seem a bit soft. Excellent composition, only gripe is the focus.

Comment by Maverick:
Good portrayal of emotion. With the slight silhouettes of flags and the strangely shaped poles, it leads me to believe that there was some struggle or hardship before the happy ending. Regardless, the picture tells a story and is very well done.

Nicely posed/composed shot. I like the tone of your background. Compliments her skin tones nicely. A touch more lighting on her hair (as simple as a reflector above and to the side of her) would make this go from a good portrait to a great one!
