I love your input. Made me look at the shot again through your eyes. I remember cropping this about 10 different ways because of many things you mentioned. I imagine a different spot along the river would have been a better choice...I went for my safety first. I took my dog with me but I'm still leary of being alone with expensive equipment at that hour. This was shot from the parking lot of a manned fire station. I have several shots of just the reflections and they were my first choice for the challenge. However, they looked like they were edited even though they weren't and I felt they wouldn't be received well by the voters. Again, thanks! I'm looking forward to your night shots.

Not to pick a fight, but your score was well above the middle of the pack, and you got a solid 5. That's a very respectable place to be in this crowd. People have very different expectations and tastes. I love the colored light on water. And I like the choice of twilight, while the sky still has some deep purple coloring. And generally I like the balance of light and dark spaces in the photo.

I usually prefer tighter compositions: The building on the right adds nothing but ugly light to the photo, IMHO. But I understand the problems involved in removing it: does one crop out the streetlight or does that light occupy the corner of the shot? Which raises the question about whether there would have been a good spot some twenty or thirty feet to the right that would eliminate this problem. I like the building with the curved surface and think it adds to the photo. The building behind Rockwells seems to distract. And I find some of the front surfaces of Rockwells too brightly or unevenly lit. Finally, that dead band of space between the lit buildings and the reflections feels wasted. (Come to think of it, cropping would have worsened this problem considerably....) I understand that most of these things are ones over which you have little control.

Did you consider just photographing the reflections? I think they are the great strength of the photo.

Your shots in the dark are inspiring me to break out the tripod and start working on some of my own.
