The steps to her apartmentby PompouspeteComment by sidpixel: Hello from the Critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
What a lovely portrait of a lovely girl in a lovely dress sitting on lovely steps! All the colours work really well together, apart from the brown supports for the steps, given the lovely blend of the major elements together I may have been tempted to recolour them to something closer to the steps but its a minor point really. She is a very attractive lady and looks delightful the way she is dressed she has a lovely smile and those ruby red lips are so enticing.
Your focus is where it should be on her face and the DOF has everything that needs to be sharp nicely covered with softness helping her to stand out from the background. The steps above her are leading to the unknown that intrigues us and keeps us interested but still focused on her.
It all works well and was respectfully received by your voters, well done, Sid |

Basking in the sunby PompouspeteComment by cowboy221977: Hello from the critique club...
WOW!!! Stunning shot here. Great model. I love the b&w with the touch of color on the flower. That definitely adds impact and interest to the shot. Nice DOF. Very nice shot and your score shows it. Ha[[y shooting. |

Headshot for a filmby PompouspeteComment by salmiakki: Greetings from the critique club
Couple of things stand out for me with this image as to why you didn't score better.
Composition: For this specific challenge which was head & shoulders portrait, I found the framing to be too tight. I would have preferred a couple of steps backward to give the neck and shoulders more emphasis.
Exposure: You elected to go for a high key over exposed look to this one, but I don't think it works very well. I took the liberty of opening the image in PS and found it much more pleasing with the exposure dropped back by 2/3 stop.
Focus: Great job with the focus considering you shot at 1.8. It's hard to keep all the right bits in focus with such shallow Depth of Field.
Overall I thought this had potential and with a couple of small changes it could have scored better. |
