I think a bit more contrast is needed here. I think the 'guy' is awesome. The whole scene is very good. Maybe a bit of light on his face, still I understand the hat/sun. Good good shot. I really admire this one.

Great shot! I just became a full fledged member & was just browsing the archives. If you would all like to know, this is called a "PPC" or Powered Parachute. Kind of a combination of a go cart with a big fan on teh back & parachute over head. I know many pilots & work some of the air shows they have. If any Photographers are in the IL area (45 minutes outside of St Louis) in mid august, you can catch the Powered Parachute World Chanpionship Competition. Details can be found at //www.chute-out.com This will be my 4th yr there working a booth. VERY cool thing to watch, photograph & do, but intro flights aren't available at competitions. I have hundreds of shots of them. Here's one of an Australian pilot (love their accents!)

Great subject. Photographing subjects with hats can be tough - all the shadow areas in this shot are just where you don't want them - on his face. A reflector could maybe help you throw some light under the brim and bring out his character and add a catch light to the eye.

Nice idea and it works well in sepia but the light is perhaps a little too harsh, creating deep contrast between shirt and face, although you have captured the detail in the face.

implied narrative! how refreshing! however, the shirt and sky feel way too hot, i would have tried a darker esposure, then a little dodging to bring out the face rom the shadows.

IMHO the harsh lighting underemphasizes the face of your subject. Another time of day might have produced more pleasing results. The face being singled out in the challenge instructions detracts slightly from your score....
