What focus method were you using? It looks like it grabbed the shirt/hair instead of the face, which is why it has the soft feeling. This happens more often when you use a multi-point AF instead of a spot-focus method.

Having said that, this happens to me all the time. Cameras tend to hate getting eyes in focus when you're doing quick shots. :/

This looks almost like a candid moment with the smile you captured. The contrast on lower third of picture pulls my eye down from her face, although I'm not sure what could be done about that.

Great expression, nice candid feel. Focus is a little soft and the saturation is a little flat -- probably the lighting and maybe that couldn't be helped.
