This a wonderful photo with lots of feeling.

For me it is more about the mans sadness, as I see the boy behind the man with his head hanging down and the man looking out across the water away from the boy.

There's no interaction between the two, and it feels like the boy is waiting patiently behind him for attention or acknowledgment.

I realise this is a completely different interpretation than others are seeing, but that's the beauty of this sort of image!

An undertsnading, maybe. Language, a bit of a stretch though.
The minimalist ground can work on occassion, I just don't think it has here though. it results in feet cut off, and the interest of the photo being in the very bottom of the shot, which I don't think works
