Clever but the light background was more complimenting in the original.

Nicely done. Great job matching the DOF of the original. Your pages could be a little smoother.

Love those complementary shades of oranges and blues seen here in your composition. The color tones are vibrant and eye catching. There are two things that I think you could do to make this composition more appealing to the eye and visually pop more. First is the composition of elements. I think you tried to capture /show us a ‘path’ from the crevasse in the rock faces that ‘lead’ the eye visually to the tree. Problem is there is a deep shadow that distracts the eye away from the tree at the top of the hill. Time of day and lighting makes a huge impact on the composition and mood a photographer wants to portray and capture. Could you have perhaps come back to this location and taken it during a different time of day to avoid the deep shadows? If not then could you have shot from a different spot or even better angle to get the same effect of the lone tree at the top of this rock hill? Taking from a higher angle(?) from a higher vantage point looking down would perhaps show us more of the tree thereby making it more your focal point. Next is that I don’t see the camera info as to what ISO, aperture, and shutter speed you took this at but a lower ISO & higher aperture setting will get you some sharper details in the textures of the rocks and the tree not to mention a sharper DOF.

This probably would have matched better if you took the shot from a little further away. The flash seems a little harsh too.

Wow, 60 views and no input on this as you had requested!

I like that there is a fairly rich range of tones in this image. However, the exposure was long enough to lose detail in the highlight areas. I think, perhaps, a shorter exposure would have helped. In another way, too, lessening the exposure would change the jagged shape of the white water in the lower pool.

The composition is not pleasing to me. I think the boulder on the right acts more as a block to the rest of the image than a leading line and I would be tempted to crop it severely. The main feature is very centered making a dynamic subject static. Because of that, I don't think merely cropping would really help in this case...a different angle upon taking the shot probably would.

This also doesn't strike me as a good candidate for horizontal arrangement. The subject and motion are vertical so, in this frame, the water begins from nowhere and flows into the bottom of the frame. The flow is also broken by the rock at the base of the first "landing"...Follow the water down, then stop, look left, continue...see? Broken.

So, overall, there are pleasing tones but some areas seem improperly exposed, the subject has potential but the composition stands in the way of realizing it.

Now that I've offered a harsh critique perhaps some other folks will come along and tell us why I'm wrong. :)

edit: while i was writing there were 14 more views and 2 comments :)

I have never been a big fan of waterfall shots in B&W. Although, this is a really good setting for one, the rocks add a real nice "texture" to the overall image, which is more or less why this would work as a good B&W image. The blown out spot at the top of the fall is very distracting, it was the first thing my eye went to when I pulled up the image- that might also be that I shoot alot of waterfalls and that is the most common spot I find my blowouts. I would be nice to see a little more detail in the fall itself.

It's a nice shot of what seems like a secret waterfall, a hidden scene of some sort. Seems a bit on the dark side on my monitor. What does the color version look like, if you have one? THe water seems a bit hot to me. All in all, it's a nice shot!
