All in a Touchby KarenBComment by Jacko: Cute idea. there seems to be lacking a bit of focus. More than one light source could have minimized the shadows |

Ode to Mapplethorpeby KarenBComment by sulamk: Greetings from the Critique Club
Composition: An interesting slant on an often photographed subject! Congratulations on being brave enough to convert it to black & White and change it from the mundane to the unusual!
I would have liked a little more room around the crop though, Part of the point appears to be missing and it is to tight on the left.
Background: Works for this image
Camera work : Overall a good sharp photo with a good tonal range, although the petal at the lower left is slightly out of focus I cant make up my mind if this detracts or actually adds another focal point!
Digital processing: Not overworked, just right!
My Opinion I like this, it makes a statement to me and everytime I go back and look at it something new grabs my interest.

Spa ... because you're worth it!by KarenBComment by jmsetzler: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Good morning, Karen :)
You are way too sohpisticated for me. Down here in the south, our finer ladies just rub a little mayonaisse on their faces to keep them young looking all the time :)
I think you have a very good concept with this photo. The before/after concept is readily visible. I think your lighting for this shot is also just about perfect. There is only one item that *I* would change in this particular shot that I believe could create some added impact... I believe that if your 'loofa' (is that spelt rite?) was a darker color, it would create a little stronger contrast in the image, but then again, it could also distract the viewer from the before/after portrait, so maybe not... just a thought...
Since this is a still life image, I believe that you could have possibly made the towel sharper with a little larger DOF. The front-facing part of the towel is a little fuzzy, but not a big issue at all. It's not the subject of the photo.
The part of the 'after' face where the loofa is protruding into the image is also creating a 'contrast' that is eye catching. I'm not sure if that's a good thing in this photo or not.
Your vision was relayed nicely... keep up the good work :)
Love ya... mean it :)
Setzler

Ode to Mapplethorpeby KarenBComment by inspzil: Unusual crop, and one I don't particularly care for. Picture looks pretty well taken, I'm not sure I like the adjustments |

Spa ... because you're worth it!by KarenBComment by lisae: Gawd... the time we women are encouraged to spend rubbing goo into our skin because "we're worth it".... I think I'm worth a yacht cruise myself :P.
The composition of this is great, and that image in the background is striking. It doesn't appeal to me though. It feels like something from a women's magazine, and I react against that kind of self-esteem manipulating, fraudulent cosmetics-selling drivel. I blame my mother for raising me as a feminist :P. |
