It seems these shots work well when you can see a secondary subject in the water droplets. I don't recognize anything in the BG to make the effect pop.

Looks like the image was rotated at 90 degrees. I can see the eyes, and am going to guess it is an image of a cat chewing on some grass. Nicely done, and it most certainly piqued my interest.
