The Wide Blue Yonderby ColeyComment by e301: I've by-passed this one a couple of times - I guess I'd better try and write something about it :-) can't make up my mind, you see. The composition, other than those extra leaves/branches upper left and right about which I'm not sure, is fine, but I would say that perhaps the definition of those trees needs work - dodging/burning perhaps, something just to bring out the depth of light and shade there. The light you've chosen is really quite blank (which suits the compositional idea), but there's so little here to hold the eye in terms of texture, of variety of subject (the grass, the road and the sky are all near solid areas of colour). Perhaps it needs a deeper air of mystery, which at the moment is missing somewhat. 6 |

The Wide Blue Yonderby ColeyComment by cghubbell: The DOF is nice, but the image is lacking interest. The sky has no drama, the pines and grass are very constant... I like the composition in some ways, but I think the only way this would work for me is if there had been a dramatic sky. |

The Banana Effectby ColeyComment by admart01: Hi Cole,
Greetings from the Critique club...
I like your play on words for the title.. it helps me know where you're going with the shot and it adds a bit of interest to it.
Technically the shot could use an edge(IMHO)-- much of it is oof although that could just be the slime on the bananas :) They appear soft (no pun intended -- really) and for a more domino-like feel some thing must be crisper. The bright light takes almost all the color away - it's flat and so adds no interest by itself. I like the diagonal line as it leads my eye through the shot. The black background is just right to set off the fruit.
I think you have a solid, albeit un-wow-factor shot.
Hope this has been helpful. PM me if you have any questions,
Regards,
Theresa |

Leaving the Restby ColeyComment by RatedR: Excellent shot! I really like this picture. Good color and focus. I don't think the multiple light sources are obvious, but I would still put this as a top 10 in this challenge. |

Trillium Trioby ColeyComment by KarenB: nice exposure in the whites. beautiful flowers. would be nicer to exclude more of the background - shallower dof.
still, they are naturally arranged in a pleasing arched formation. |
