It seems that the normally accepted technical rules, and conventional ideas of beauty don't apply to your photography. The emotional content appears to be more powerful than convention.

Good idea but the boy is too oof and I'm not liking the car in the upper left. Might be worth trying a reshoot where you have a boy such as this one "pose" as if he is smiling at the boys in the painting and not holding a plastic bag of soda cans but maybe a paper bag of something (popcorn maybe).

In other words it's powerful in a negative way. Do I hate it? no. Do I love it? I really don't think it's about the Black and White of it...

only thing i would do differently is to see if I could overpower the noise with some luminance noise rather than chrominance noise. Would shift the focus a bit from the technical to the content.

I wonder if anyone else noticed the big jug of orange tang sitting off to his left... The accompaniment of methadone where I come from.

I doubt that this pic would have the same impact without the title.

This image shows so much feeling and the title just punctuates that. I agree w/Larus about the crop of the black thing, but overall this is awesome. Can't believe I didn't comment on it during the challenge. I remember this one and scored it well!
