Comment by SwordandScales:
The darker tones definitely stand out among the high-key, plated dessert, competitors. Great entry.

I like this but on my screen the overall impression is too dark.

I love the drip on his nose!! I think I would have liked a closer in shot without the spoon, however. The spoon seems to lead the eye away from the dessert, and I tend to focus on the reflection on the bowl of the spoon. Also, the dessert seems quite dark in the front. -6- for the shot, +1 for making it look delicious and for illuminating the drop on his nose. :)

In judging this challenge I don't ask "Does this photo make me want to eat this?" I ask "Would I want to hang this on my wall?" Other than some weaknesses this is good technically and would be a good photo for illustrating your dessert in a menu or cookbook, but it isn't that exciting for an artistic photo. It could be cropped tighter since the eye moves between the "monster" and the tip and bowl of the spoon and there's extra space that is unused. Also, the plate is a little dark as a backdrop for the dark chocolate.

Comment by Kroburg:
I like this one, a bit of a dark atmosphere, almost like the real Loch Ness. And with the bright yellow colour you're able to compensate those dark colours. And the chocolates on top (with the yellow drip on it's bose - fabulous) are really finishing this creation.

i gave this an 8 and i like the stylishness of it, i feel its a little dark though on the pudding that facing us, needed some fill light to compliment the bright spoon reflection. i like the drip on the nose of the monster.

I really like this and would have given it a 10 if it wasn't for the darkness in front. Would have needed an extra source of lighting, however the composition and set up are just beautiful and so I gave it an 8!

Food doesn't usually look good on black plates but the addition of the teaspoon really helped it a lot. I like your placement of the dessert on the plate. Appealing shot and the dessert looks good too!

Great attention to detail. I would have preferred to see a tighter crop without the extra space under the plate especially.
