Black and white waistlines! Vintage bvy. This is the kind of shot that wins prizes in venues way beyond dpc.

And we need more of this kind of discussion.

Brian, am coming from this thread. Yup, its a decent candid but don't be put off by those that appear worried by it, as you said, it sparked some interesting comments and thats always good (if you want to provoke emotive thoughts from an image). If I were you I'd be quite chuffed that what is really a snapshot has created these feelings.

Moi? I'm thinking she is the mother and knows that another drink for the child will mean a search for a toilet ;)

Ha! Nope. Never seen him before, don't expect to again. I just happened to catch a few shots of him from different angles. Guess I need some new material. I didn't get much time to shoot last week, and those opportunities I did have were bright sunny days, which is a challenge for shooting street shots.

Since I shoot from the hip, it's much harder to set exposure. Usually the bright background is what gets properly exposed at the cost of underexposed subjects. On an overcast day, the light is more uniform. Lately I've been experimenting with spot metering and manually setting exposure -- with mixed results. You use light and shadows to great advantage in your work; I hope to be able to emulate that soon.

Heh... Most of my pics are from my walk from the office to the train home and I run into a lot of the same faces many of which I have more than one shot of. : )

I like the intimacy of your shots...

Comment by MacDonald:
Am late in commenting so I am not reading any others so forgive me if I repeat their comments:

This shot kinda creeps me out ... maybe because I am a mom and a grandma... she is looking at the little child like she/he is a bug under a microscope.. or maybe it is just the way you processed it.. (I am being kind to the mom here ok) the more I look at it the more weirded out I get.. sorry bvy.. that's it for me.

aww bvy, you are the master of 'from the hip shots' .. attitude is all over this shot.. wonder what the outcome was.. because I am late in getting to comment I am not going to read the others so forgive me if I repeat them... I like the blown out buildings.. they bring the tension to the ppl in the shot.. the guys hand tells a story if we could see nothing else.. good job as usual.

I thought this might have been Nixter. I think this means you've got the hang of street stuff. Awesome commenter average - you really reached a contingent of the voters very well!
