Couple of thoughts for you.
First: The color and exposure looks very good. Technically the depth of focus could be improved somewhat. Focus is very sharp on a portion of the petals but falls off quickly before and after that focal plane. This may have been intentional but I cant help but think that a greater depth of field would have improved the picture. To really help identify it explicitly as 'backside', having part of the green center in focus would have been beneficial. Stopping your lens down to f5.6 or f8 would have still allowed you to shoot a decent shutter speed, especially if you upped the ISO rating to 400.
Compositionally the main drawback is the out of focus twig on the LH side. Several commenters mentioned it and I'm sure it was a major factore in the scoring. Flowers have been shot and re-shot so many times it is hard to find a fresh angle. I'm not sure what to suggest compositionally except maybe a tighter crop.
ursula and
tuckersmom both do some great stuff with flowers.
Scoring was primarily affected by the OOF twig. Again, your colors are vivid and exposure looks great. But, DPC voters are sticklers for focus, depth of focus, and clean compositions. It met the challenge well, just needed some finetuning :)
Any questions? PM me. Keep on shooting and have fun!
