Male Cardinalby DrakeComment by sidpixel: Hello from the Critique club
An appealing study that meets the challenge well.
Good sharp accurate focus of this vividly coloured little fellow, what bird wench could possibly resist him! My initial reaction is that the background is a little distracting but then it could be argued it adds interest to what would otherwise be a plain background. Because it is obviously part of the tree on which he is sat I would say it adds to the overall effect. His alert posture certainly adds impact to the image. Well seen and taken. |

Male Cardinalby DrakeComment by tate: I admire shots like this. I have a cardinal couple that always chat me up nearby my house and I dream of gettting a shot like this some day. |

Male Cardinalby DrakeComment by gipper11: Very nice composition and cute little bird that is very well exposed with nice focus on the bird and nice depth of field being displayed. |

An interesting image that makes a contribution to the free challenge
The level of detail is, as you have remarked, quite amazing. Looking at your technical details 1/400 at f5.6 at ISO 100 you’re right, it was brightly lit, wow! Whilst you have a very competent shot with lots of surface detail its low contrast detracts somewhat, I think you could have given it more impact by raising the contrast so that the moon really shone out from the black background. There’s not a lot you can do compositionally but I think placing it slightly off-centre does improve it a little.
Thanks for your entry Drake |

What a lovely decayed flower head you have chosen to use and the vivid overexposed background really makes it stand out. I'm not sure I would regard the choice of subject as mundane especially with such beautiful hues as it has. So, feeling tired is your intended mood and I can see the relationship as can most of your voters with the general theme being one from melancholy through to death with similar expressions in between so in that respect I would say you achieved your goal, well done. For me the delicacy of the structure comes through strongest so I would probably have said 'fragile'.
Thanks for an interesting entry Drake |
