A guiding light through life's stormy seasby DrakeComment by OneSweetSin: Critique Club
Very nice image. Only thing I can see that might improve a little more is moving the lighthouse to the right slightly it is neither in the middle or the right third. I think cropping a little more off on the right would have made this much stronger.
Overall the focus and detail are good. I do believe you also met the challenge very well. Nice work. Hope to see more of the lighthouse in future challenges. |

Follow the guiding light to your local House of Worshipby DrakeComment by crabappl3: Sometimes even a great beam of light doesn't make a shot. The church with the house next to it and the white in front of it seem to actually bring the shot down instead of lift it up. I'm sure it's a nice church and all, but the muted tones and composition seem off balanced and flat. 5 -danny |

"A Field Guide to Hawks of North America"by DrakeComment by joshua: Hi from the CC
There are some obvious flaws that you are aware of by now i.e. fence causing cross hatching effect and a lack of sharpness on the hawk. as i'm looking at your picture it seems like the shot was underexposed and then adjusted in photoshop. my experience with dslrs is that this tends to lead to softer photos with less sharpness. another thing to consider is raising the iso and aperture in order to maintain the same shutter speed but increase the sharpness. also maybe the case was you didn't have a tripod and were forced to hand hold the shot. any or all of these factors could lead to a softer looking shot. it would be nice to see what you could do with a low iso in bright light with a tripod. i think your shot would be much sharper with greater color contrast and vibrance. take care

Follow the guiding light to your local House of Worshipby DrakeComment by adine: Nice rays of light, good idea. I'd crop the bottom, it would glamorize the church better, that weedy lot is abit depressing (or did yo mean it to be ironic? then include more of the lot) Church is a bit dark - would be hard to adjust without ruining the sky - maybe some sp[ot editing after the challenge? |
