The mood is beautifully captured and I like the framing. One of the things that is serendipitous but why it works so well is the color balance (reds, orange, rust, cream against the bluish gray of the perch and the warm brownish grays in the background). The sharpness of the bird's feet gripping the perch is nice. I keep wanting to see more detail in the face but I don't know if any more was available since the rest of the bird is so clear.

Nice pose but the light source is too direct, leaving nasty shadows etc.
background should be ok, just try better lighting and maybe mounting on a tripod would sharpen it up a little.

This has a really eerie Halloween type feel to it. Not sure if its the colors or if it reminds me of something I've seen in a movie somehwere, maybe "Carrie". I think its a pretty neat shot though and a good idea.6
