Yea the center is very cool. I normally do everything I want and then resize, I don't seem to have a problem with sharpness that way? Hmm..

I did not know that resizing altered the sharpness of the image. I'll add that to my workflow. CapeSail's high pass filter brought it back very close to the original sharpness so I think we got the mystery solved.

Thanks to all who put in their 2 cents.

I usually have to use a USM or Smart sharpen and a low setting after resizing to ge the photo back to an acceptable sharpness.

I really like the crop, makes the skull stand out. The focus on the petals however is a bit too soft.

I hope you don't mind but I just copied it and then applied a High Pass Filter (at 10 pixels...which may be too much) so you can see the effect. I like your composition, whether you like it soft or sharp is a personal preference. But the following is what it looks like with the High Pass applied.

Did you sharpened the photo after resizing? (They always seems to get a little soft after resizing). Both versions are very nice, but indeeed, a little soft.

Damn! I just looked at the color file and it is soft. My original (in its real format) was not. In fact, it was so sharp that you could see all the scratches done to the petals by people brushing against the plant on display.

HELP! What am I doing wrong when I save my files for the web?

OK! Can you help me understand what's happening with my files? This is the original color file . To me, it looks as crisp as possible (the lower petal is blurred because of the shallow dof) and because I focused on the center of the flower. How can it go soft in the conversion? This SC is for learning so I'm all ears!!

Unless you mean that the flower is not entirely sharp, in that case, I agree.

Nice image, good croping too, I only wish that the flower is a little bit more sharp.
