I think it's fine and the majority of the layering is on the edging, creating a nice vignette. It pulls our eye toward the bird. I am really fond of the monochromatic theme here.

It does have a gritty but otherworldly feel. The reflection offers an alternate view of the substantial world. A watery/glass reflection of the solid and enduring (the stone cathedral) turned into something delicate that can be swept away with the kick of the foot or brush of the hand.

Hmmm. So much good stuff here. I think I agree about the ghosting of the people. That seems a little odd. Also, I would just soften the areas where the images overlap. I like the birds, but maybe turn them gray, or even white? Also, perhaps add some depth with some grunge or clouds around the upper area, to break up the water. I like it as it is, but these are things that I might try.

I do like the concept-the flow is all wrong-the birds don't need to be in there and can you transition the family more smoothly from sand to surf ? Good to experiment & here is where you can get feedback

I think it's interesting, but the ghosting of the people seems a little strange... Have you tried masking that part out so they're not ghosts? Or did it look more interesting with them as ghosts? (just curious... :)
