Caught In A Whirlpoolby jimmspComment by FranziskaLang: challenge ~ met composition (content) ~ interesting swirls ... is it water with foodcoloring or something? i would have placed the swirl exactly in the center, or used the rule of thirds ... you are somewhere in between. background ~ background and subject are kind of the same, so it's hard to say. a slightly tighter crop could've gotten rid of the bottom left corner which doesn't fit in with the rest of the shot. camera work (technical) ~ fine. digital processing (technical) ~ good. my opinion ~ it's abstract, but not so abstract that i can't even guess at what it may be (although my guess may be wrong, at least i can visualize something out of the photo). i would've liked a little less white, and maybe some more sharp lines, but that may not have been possible, and that's also just personal taste, especially for an abstract photo. overall good shot. ~~ gr8photos |

Caught In A Whirlpoolby jimmspComment by Arachnophilia: a little more off center would have been better compositionally, i think. not sure. the off white in the lower left hand corner is too... distracting, i guess. the lines are beautiful, and the color distrubution fantastic. abstract things rule. it's not perfect, but i like it enough to give it a ten anyways. |

Voters Fund Nature Preserve, Reject Developmentby jimmspComment by andrewm: The great problem with this photo is the lack of a focal point for the viewer to focus on. Ones eyes seem to just slide off the photo. I don’t know the area but if one of those trees at such interesting angles were used as a focal point—if you had managed to get closer to them and used them in your composition as a prominent feature this photo might have worked better or perhaps the photo taken from low down in the grass on the opposite bank. Your picture is well exposed with good focus and DOF for a scenic shot. Nice reflections on the water. As you have explained you had a problem with the horizon –it does distract from your shot. Your processing is good and your camera shows good detail . The title sparks the imagination—and this looks like a great conservation area Andrewm Critique Club |
