Smart cover and good use of old phone and faded b/w. I voted earlier and I am bumping you higher.

Hi Melissa:

Greeting from the Critique Club -- hello to a fellow member -- the pressure's on me to offer as good a critique as you do :)

It seems by the few comments that you've fallen into the "average score" category here. You meet the challenge and there is a good technical quality to your shot.

What strikes me first about your shot is that each element has a different color and there is no unifying element or main element to pull the composition together - it's as if each (the chocolate, strawberry, background, wings, bug body, and leaves) all take the same weight in the shot and in a way compete for my attention.

Compositionally, you have only one two items but they are bundled so tightly together that the composition doesn't allow me to explore the frame.

If you have any questions or comments, please pm me. I've enjoyed looking at your photographs and wish you lots of good shooting!

Regards,
Theresa

:: Hello from the Critique Club ::
............................................................

As always when shooting for a challenge there is the issue of it obviously meeting the brief for most voters. While I don't think this does per se, it really doesn't take much to come round to some form of link to the balance of nature - even without the title. Its weakness may be that there is not much demonstration of the opposite element of the balance, namely the other part of the food chain - the seagulls.

A short glance at this shot without the benefit of a challenge brief would lead me to think that this is a statement of man's damage to the environment - of something unnatural, such as posinous waters or pollution.

Whatever the view on this it's still an engaging shot, however unpleasant and you were right to retain the colour.

Cheers
Jon

The highlights are too blown out on this - washed out some of the shoe's edges.
