Still Life With Bottleby melismaticaComment by e301: For an image that depends on a subtle graduation of light and shade, your border is extrordinarily imposing and clunky; your handling of the highlights of this image doesn't seem to be in your control either - and the broad white band of that border just adds proof to the sense that you've taken the highlights too far and lost all sense of detail. Compositionally, it might well have worked extremely well, but it shows evidence of not understanding whay exposure was required and controlling that in post-processing. You have, nevertheless, achieved a strong sense of heat, which might have stoof the image in good stead if the subject demanded it - but a still life - I can't see how this feeling of out-of-control exposure sits with the image you're presenting. Shows a strong sense fo composition, spatially, also.
A good attempt, I'd say; but needing more expertise to be brought to bear. |

Scarf Portrait No.3by melismaticaComment by melismatica: It's not my favorite either but I kind of liked the weird quality of it. I cropped it strangely because I didn't like the way the lower half of my face looked (vanity, Thy name is woman). Also, I'm a bit cross-eyed in this one and I figured the goofy crop might make that less obvious. I probably should just scrap it. I liked the rich color of the scarf contrasting with the black in this one. I think that was a big part of my choosing this shot. |

Scarf Portrait No.2by melismaticaComment by melismatica: I agree that this one isn't as sharp as it could be. There isn't quite enough sparkle in the eyes for me. I'm not very handy at PhotoShop. I can never quite figure out how the sharp filters work. One of these days I'll take a class. I'm getting a new laptop---maybe that will be a good exuse to take a class since I'll finally be upgrading to PhotoShop Elements (these days I'm using 4.0.1 believe it or not!). |

Scarf Portrait No.1by melismaticaComment by melismatica: Thanks again for the comment. I wondered if I should crop this some since it is an odd format for a portrait---horizontal and centered. That is the result of using the self timer without a tripod. |

Modby melismaticaComment by SandyP: I do love how the lighting lights up just one side of the face, leaving the other in a nice shadow! The bathroom. huh? I'll have to try that as a studio. This turned out very well!!!!
P.S. . . .you do look like Tea Leone here :) With dark hair. |
