How did you get him to agree to post this on the Internet? (or does he know?)Some fill flash might have helped with shadows and to bring out more emphasis on the subject and less on the background.

Seems to be excessive shadows in the front and on the top left of his head.

That background is way too busy for a portrait. It keeps pulling the eye away from the person. Might've used a larger aperture so that it would've been blurry back there instead.

I like the pose and expression but the composition seems to draw the eye to the guitar instead of the person. Maybe a camera shift right might've helped.
