RC truck Panningby bennettjamieComment by MattO: I think beyond working on the panning you should also look at WB and editing issues with the shot. I pulled the image and made a quick edit to it. Since I don't know the real color of the truck I'm essentially guessing. The shot is a bit overexposed as well. One other thing try to get a lower angle and shoot a bit straighter on it(shooting parallel) while working on the pans. If you want me to pull the edit just shoot me a PM and I'll pull it.

RC truck Panningby bennettjamieComment by ambaker: Nice work. Though the end is cut off just a bit, it still works well because all the bits that were lost appear to be in shadow.
The vehicle comes across nice and sharp. With the rest a nice linear blur. No shaky hands here. Nice job. |

Christmas Trees For Saleby bennettjamieComment by purpleflutterby13: Greetings from the Critique Club.
Hmm, don't know what to make of this one... It fits the challenge, and it's clearly been carefully composed - you've got that nice diagonal of trees fading off into the distance. But something about it just doesn't quite come together... Maybe it's the lack of a clear subject, leaving the viewer's eye to drift backwards and forwards without being drawn to any one single item. Maybe it's the mood of the colours - the normally happy greens and yellows somehow acquire a slightly morose feel mixed in with the darkness above and the subject matter. Overall, the viewer is left with the impression that the artist was indeed trying to say something, but also ends up slightly frustrated with the unspecificity of the message.
Not a bad shot though, and you've got some interesting stuff in your portfolio - I look forward to seeing further entries from you :) |

Up up, and almost awayby bennettjamieComment by salmiakki: Greetings from the Critique Club
Sorry this did not score higher for you, I felt it was worthy of a higher score. On the other hand, you have a Posthumous comment and an Undieyatch award, so hopefully those helped offset any disappointment from the score.
I really liked the fact you actually showed some motion in your picture. Too many in this challenge, for me at least, did not really do that, which was disappointing. Converting to black and white was a good choice in my opinion. I only wonder if perhaps it could have had a little bit less contrast as some of the details are lost due to the very dark shadows. I do like the vignette, that worked very well.
Overall, I thought this was well composed, a good subject that definitely met the challenge. The only reason I didn't score it higher, was I felt it could have had a little bit less contrast.
Well done and again, sorry it didn't score higher. |

Walkabout Flowers 077.jpgby bennettjamieComment by Greetmir: Yes ... I like the DoF too but WHERE the focus is ... that sets this aside a bit IMO ... the tips of the fragile pistils (well ... I think that is what they are) makes me think that I am right there (maybe even cross-eyed) looking at this. I think it is a very professional looking image ...
except ... I find myself so OFTEN preaching the "Rule of Thirds" that I hope ppl don't think that it is a law ... but it REALLY IS proven to caress the eye. THIS photo IMO would benefit greatly by just a just SLIGHTLY different crop that would make it IN YOUR FACE pretty.
... just my opinion but if you wanna send me a 5-6 meg image of it ... I could SHOW you how I think it could be devastatingly good (again IMO) as far as the crop making the statement. I hope this is just a BIT of a crop and not full frame ... but even then I would love to play with the crop of such an image and see if you like it better ...
but ... oh ... BTW ... I like this image a LOT! |
