(Know that I only vote in even numbers.)

A six for you. Good use of the square frame, nice textures, nice cool tones. I stop at six because I feel it's too perfect -- but that simply means had I been in front of this scene, I'd have done something different. Overall, very nice.

From what I can find, this book is not a novel but a modern and well-researched accounts of the Indian mutiny of 1857. But aside from that issue of topicality, the image is perfectly processed photo of a beautiful location. The point of view reminds me of Europoean Renaissance paintings such as Masaccio's "Holy Trinity" of 1427 with its single-point perspective focused at the horizon line, as well as teh finely rendered archetectural detail. This image could rate a 10 easily for an archetectural topic but since it is supposed to be inspired by "classic novels", I have to downgrade it... all the way to a... 9.

Love the detail and shading, as well as the continual nature implied in the design.
I'm not familiar with the book but after a quick look it seems the image is at least geographically in keeping, and the image does certainly seem to be mausoleum-esque.
I keep having the sensation that it is not level, caused mostly by the small bit in the bottom center, but upon righting myself to the image realize that it is this aspect, and not the whole image, that is causing my skew.
The pillars and archways do wonders to draw the eye to the shaded mural on the wall.
overall i'm giving this an 8 9 and would expect this to finish in the top 10.
this is also getting a favorite (and bumped score) after finishing all voting.

Comment Challenge: This is a very nice image, with good depth, nice processing, nice colors, and great architecture. However, to me, it comes across as an austere documentation of the building, with no personable human touch.

You are making me read this book! I like Darlymple writing very, very much and other than some of his articles here and there I was totally engrossed by his book "From the Holy Mountain".
Your picture is good and restrained in its processing and the rosy hues seem to give justice to the monument.
It's true that for this challenge I would have liked more of an interpretative shot, but you produced an honest picture
6 (for now)
