This is a superb shot, with the water reflecting the light up under the bird so nicely illuminating the exceptional detail in the feathers.
That f5.6 iso 100, SS 1/1,000 is right on the "Sunny 16" rule when you do the math.

I haven't got a clue why this one didn't win! Excellent use of rule of thirds. The others have a lot of blank space with the subject in the rule of thirds....this one goes one step further and gives you a full image that is interesting to look at, not just the subject in the rule of thirds.
