Juvenile Semipalmated Ploverby scottiehamComment by scottieham: Originally posted by ellamay: nice clean and clear shot, i like no background distractions, tho why a shore bird is on the road vs the shore is a little funny. Well done@ |
He's actually not on a road. He is on the beach down near the water at low tide so the sand is all flat from where the water has smoothed it :) |

Black Duckby scottiehamComment by SteveJ: Another good shot, Scott! But watch your arse matey:)) I now have the Sigma 150-500mm and will be closing in soon:)
That looks like a Mallard, colours can vary a lot. Again, the quick shot grabbed in low light is more effective at capturing a moment. Getting a shot like that means more than getting a clear, sharp shot that is boring...just like mine:) |

Ravenby scottiehamComment by scottieham: Originally posted by vawendy: Raven's are such interesting birds! Nice shot! Did you try shadows/highlights to bring out the feathers a little more? ah, skip that--just looked at your portfolio--you know what you're doing :D |
Hi Wendy,
I worked on this photo a month ago, and I'm at work now, so I'm not sure if i did shadows/highlights. I do remember that there was a large section cut off on the left of the histogram, so I am pretty sure that is most of the bird and there is not much detail to recover. The thing I really like about this photo is how the light caught his head and the light on his eye, and in particular his beak. This is a hard bird to expose for without blowing out the background. |
